Another Sign of Food Inflation - How Manufacturers Are Hiding It From You

Yet another sign of Food Inflation.

According to this NYTimes article, manufacturers are reducing how much you get in each package (but keeping prices the same) in order to hide the effects of rising food costs.

Many companies are redesigning packaging to hide this or are doing things like scooping in the bottom of the peanut butter jar so it looks the same but holds less.

Sneaky sneaky!

For example Bags of Doritos, Tostitos and Fritos now have 20 percent fewer chips than in 2009. And can of Chicken of the Sea tuna is now 5 ounces, instead of the older version at 6-ounces.

Yet one more reason it's smart to stock up on long term food storage.

Japan Nuclear Danger Empties Food Shelves

This is what happens when you have a major emergency like the earthquake in Japan with the looming nuclear threat:

Japan's nuclear emergency prompts panic buying in Tokyo

No food, no water, no potassium iodide, nada. That's why it's important to protect yourself by storing emergency food, water and other essential survival gear.
